November 2009

As we move towards the Christmas period – a little too quickly for my liking – I need to remind you that our Christmas Party and Project meeting will be on 16th December in Upton Village Hall. Don't forget to bring your sewing kit and the following bits and pieces if you want to make a fabric pentagon bowl. You'll need cardboard (cereal packets are good), craft glue, scissors for paper and for fabric, the equivalent of 2 fat quarters of fabric (Christmas or otherwise), matching threads and clothes pegs. And if the thought of all this creativity and work makes you feel a little faint you can revive yourself with the Christmas goodies and a nice cup of tea.

The Winter UFO (unfinished objects) workshop will be on Saturday 21st November – more details in Dates for your Diary.

I am happy to relate that others have obviously had a more productive response to Swiss chocolate eating and have started on their Alpine themed quilts. Just to remind you – this is our esteemed chairperson Barbara Harrison's challenge to us – that as many of us as possible make quilts with an Alpine theme by February 2010.

On January 20th 2010 we will be having a Four Corners meeting – and the theme is quilting. We are looking for volunteers to do a corner on machine quilting, hand quilting, quilt as you go, quilt patterns etc. You get the idea! Please contact Krysia (01244 314345) if you are happy to share and demonstrate your expertise with members. Thanks!

Some of us enjoyed a great workshop with Amanda Hall in October with the choice of making a jelly roll quilt or a quilted bag. It is timely, however, to remind you that workshops must be paid for at the time of booking otherwise your place will not be confirmed.   If people drop out without having paid it means we run the workshop at a loss. Every effort will be made to fill the vacancy but if this is not possible your payment will not be refunded. Refunds will only be made in exceptional circumstances e.g. bereavement or illness.

TIPS OF THE MONTH

Use small scraps of wadding to clean threads off a cutting mat.

To relax the wrinkles in a piece of polyester wadding, open and unfold it and warm it briefly with a hairdryer.
